Susuana Olatunji Komolafe an educator leading the introduction of African Studies into educational system in Ireland since 2010 when she initiated the Africa History Month Ireland.

This short course has been developed in accordancewith the NCCA template and guideline. This short course has been developed by Susuana Olatunji Komolafe the Executive Educational Director of Africa History Educational Center for Africa Studies, under the platform of Afro in Diaspora Center with the support of Revd. Dr. Livingstone Thompson

Susuana is recommending the introduction of African Studies to the Junior Circle education curriculum and most especially the transitional year students. As an educator within the community and the Principal Director of Africa History Educational Center for African Studies in Ireland, I strongly believe that this addition to the curriculum will have a significant positive impact on the students' education and will contribute to the development of a more informed and tolerant society.

The importance of Africa in the global community cannot be overstated. Africa is the second-largest continent in the world and is home to over 1.3 billion people, representing a diverse array of cultures, languages, religions, and traditions. Furthermore, Africa is a significant contributor to the global economy and is a crucial player in global affairs.

Despite this, Africa is often overlooked in many educational curricula, including those in our schools. This omission creates a gap in students' knowledge and perpetuates stereotypes and misconceptions about the continent and its people.

Introducing African Studies to the Junior Circle education curriculum and most especially the transitional year students will help to bridge this gap and provide students with a more comprehensive understanding of the world around them. This subject will expose them to the rich history, culture, and diversity of...Read More

There was a variety of cultures and backgrounds in attendance which gave the group lots of colour and strength and it was great to be able to share among ourselves some of our personal backgrounds that brought us all together on the night. I always feel that a tea break is essential as it allows us to chill and mingle which we did on the night. It was a very easy going atmosphere and a nice small intimate group. I was unsure of what to expect before I attended but I am pleased to say that it was very enjoyable and I am glad that I went.

Lookout from 1st Nov- 30th Nov the "Africa History Month Ireland 2021 will kickstart" Inbox to join us in the celebration for change in narrative and cultural celebration

The key to understanding Africa continent is culturally & genetically examining through it’s language families. Often times peoples classified in the same language family have some close, distant, or very distant cultural & genetic affiliation.

The distance often depends on where they fall in the subgrouping of that linguistic family. Native to the African continent are four major language phylum's. Those being the Niger-Congo linguistic family, the Nilo-Saharan linguistic family, the Afro-Asiatic linguistic family, and the Khoisan linguistic family, and each of these can be divided even more into subphylum's. The Afro-Asiatic language family largely found in North & East Africa but also a portion of West & Central Africa also over spills into the Middle East, that being the Levant & the Arabian Peninsula.

The Niger Congo family is predominantly found in West, Central, Southern, & East Africa. Be mindful all these linguistic families as mentioned before can be divided into further subphylums. For example the Bantu linguistic family encompasses mostly Central, East, & Southern Africa is a subphylum of the Niger Congo family. West Africans are not of Bantu stock, a common mistake those who are not detailed thorough students of African anthropology or history. West Africans are the distant cousins of Bantu peoples being broadly all a part of the Niger Congo family, but they are not linguistically or culturally Bantu.

GRAB A TSHIRT FOR YOURSELF TODAY

The Nilo-Saharan language family is found for...Read More

IRELAND is the first Country to officially in the world celebrate an annual Africa History Month Ireland, in November standing out of the crowd. This initiative has grown into a national program-me celebrated in various counties here in Ireland helping people understand different cultures and promote mainly the presence of Africans here in Ireland and the history we have in common with Irish people. "Susuana Olatunji Komolafe" is the creator. founder & Initiator of the Africa History Month Ireland, powered by Afro in Diaspora Center (Adcenter) it include in the celebration and activities Caribbean History, African Caribbean Author Fay, Africa Fashion Week, Africa Film Festival, Africa Music Festival, Africa Drama Festival, Africa Comedy Festival & Africa Art and Craft Festival

The initiative of celebrating "Africa History Month Ireland" and used the term OR word OR recognizing the continent and wide cultural heritage ‘Africans’ to denote ‘color’ or ‘black’ persons. I’m well aware that I have deployed the term un-problematically given the on-going changes of seeing Africans as Black People, we are Africans, not Black People, am Africa from Nigerian with black skin complexion.

Khalid Koser (Koser, 2003) has used the term ‘New African Diasporas’ to describe the new and more recent settlement of African here in Ireland. African migrant groups in Ireland fit Koser’s description of ‘New African Diasporas’. In fact, it would be correct to regard them as the newer of the New African Diasporas, given that the large scale presence of Africans in Ireland is taking place almost half a century after African immigrants have established a larger presence in places like the United Kingdom and France. It is fitting therefore that any analysis of the situation of Africans in Ireland...Read More

Susuana Olatunji Komolafe

The Recognition of the role of Africans in Ireland to celebrate "Africa History Month" Initiated here in Ireland since 2010 by Susuana O.M Olatunji-Komolafe in recognition of the contribution of all Africans that has lived or still living in the Republic of Ireland, which have played a positive role and make an impact in the society. As Africans we share history with Africans Americans Descendants of slaves, African British, Caribbean Island, living here and back home as they also celebrate their identity. To allow youth, children and young generation understand the beauty of their roots and staying strong in addressing the opportunities and challenges of being a minority in Ireland.

The purpose of this project initiative is to explore African history, culture, heritage, experience, creativity in writing, knowledge as seen by Africans worldview and African literature through solely African authors and people with knowledge of Africa, a shared history with Irish people and Africa impact in the world global development.
